Learn to read you cretin. I didn't say The Kingsmen were Motown I said US surf/punk. In fact "Louise Louise" was a reggae track originally I think.

Tomorrow Never Knows. That track was on Revolver, released in 1967. Still sounds fresh today. Could be the Chemical Brothers.

They were often the first to do things and that's what sets them apart. Unreal output in 7 or 8 years. Sometimes judged against bands still going and who only really do blues etc.

Just a great case study of that decade. Superb. Can't wait for the documentary.

History of the Who as Mods

Pre Feb 64 - The Detours
Feb 64 - The Who
July 64 - Pete Meaden becomes manager... gets them wearing Mod clobber... changes name to the High Numbers... brings out a single Zoot Suit/Im the Face
Nov 64 - Lambert and Stamp become managers change name back the The Who

https://petetownshend.net/news/new-interview-with-irish-jack

Oxsaw.... Mod main years was probably 62-66... especially in London (my Dad stared going to the West End clubs in 63)... lots of the original jazz cafe mob originals would have given up well before 65/66... for the ones hanging on Skinhead came along in 67-68 to get their teeth into... up North was always a couple of years behind so parka wearing on cut down scooters dancing to rare soul (aka N/Soul) started taking off at clubs like the twisted wheel in manchester etc

Re: The beatles . Get back The Documentary
Fuck me Swiss talks shit.

The Kingsmen weren't Motown or 'surf'. It was the Kinks that nicked the Louie Louie riff, NOT the Who. It came out as You Really Got Me. Then the Who nicked You Really Got Me and it came out as I Can't Explain (and lot of subsequent songs). Ray Davies and Pete Townshend are both perfectly happy to acknowledge that, so I don't know why you can't.

And it was only Keith Moon who was a surf fan.

As for the Doors, one great Ray Manzarak organ solo and a load of rubbish.

Re: The beatles . Get back The Documentary
Making an existing band get a new haircut or wear matching suits does not make them manufactured.

The Beatles sacked good-looking Pete Best against Epstein's wishes and got in their ugly mate Ringo, who could actually play the drums. The Who were mods for about as long as it took Entwistle to change his RAF roundel T-shirt and kick Pete Meaden up the arse. The Kinks rebelled against Grenville and Robert's chosen name for them and the daft pink hunting jackets by generally being the most degenerate of the lot and getting banned from pretty much everywhere.

I love the Small Faces, but in truth, Don Arden sacked Jimmy Winston for being too tall and ugly and brought in Ian McLagen because his height matched the rest of the band (plus the rest liked him and he could play). Loog Oldham sacked the Stones founder member and lifelong mate Ian Stewart for being ugly. Stewart remained with the Stones until the day he died. So the two cool ones were actually the most manufactured. And in truth, they weren't either.

I recall mods (and rockers) being a phenomenon of the middle to late 60s.

Anyone claiming to be of that genre after the pirates were forces off the air and Radio 1 started is a plastic/wanabee/copy/"tribute" but NOT the real thing.

"...with the likes of the Rolling Stones and all the others you see shoved down our throats on TV/radio 24/7 that pretended to be anti-establishment, championing rebelliousness etc are simply pushing and promoting the establishment's own agenda in the 2020s"

They just got older and wiser. All that anti establishment rebelliousness is a young man's game. It's why we laugh at middle aged lefties.
